2009 National Forest Week Celebration - Canada's Natural Resources ...Strong Roots, Green Shoots
The Children's Forest program will serve two purposes. First, it will provide children with a hands-on experience of planting a tree, helping to instill a sense of ownership and pride along with fostering stewardship of the forest resource. Secondly, it allows the children to leave a legacy for the future, a symbol to future generations that we cared enough about the earth and the future to plant a trees.
The planting site is able to host several plantings over the past number of years and is easily accessible, so that students can return to view their trees. The idea is to establish a forested area for non-commercial purposes, that will serve as a wind break, control soil erosion, provide a wildlife habitat and beauty.
The Children's Forest : Joint Project of the:
Nova Scotia Forestry Association and Forest Products Association of Nova Scotia
Truro Elementary Grade 4/5 students were the 2009 participants !
