Who is Woodsy Owl?
Woodsy is a colorful fantasy character who is very knowledgeable about the environment. He knows we can all work together to make our earth a better place to live.
Woodsy was "hatched" in 1970, and since then, has been flapping his wings and spreading the message "Give a Hoot! ... Don't Pollute!".
Woodsy came to Nova Scotia in 1987 at the request of the Nova Scotia Forestry Association, to promote the wise use and protection of our forests and environment, and to help combat air, water, noise and visual pollution in Nova Scotia.
What the Woodsy Program can do for you:
Help you and your friends promote a clean environment
take part in promotional events in your area
arrange for Woodsy to visit your class or group |
Did you know that?......
- Litter in our country's lakes and rivers causes long-term harm to aquatic life. As excess organic matter from the litter is broken down by aquatic micro-organisms, they may consume so much oxygen that fish begin to die.
- 10% of our trash is recycled, 5% is burned to create energy. The rest is buried in landfills.
- When hiking or camping, carry out everything you carried in
- Recycle cans, bottles, and paper
- Use reusable products
-
- Start a compost pile
- Walk or ride your bike to do small errands
- Limit your use of unfriendlies: aerosol cans, non-recyclables, etc.
